Facial Yoga consists of performing a series of exercises for the face and neck, which, practicing them regularly, are capable of making significant changes in your face because they tone, oxygenate and eliminate toxins from the muscles and facial tissues.
For several decades, the benefits of this discipline have been studied, and if they are really effective exercises to prevent and even to reverse the sagging of the face. The origin of facial Yoga is found in the 70s, when its creator, Catherine Urwitz, devised a comprehensive plan involving body, face and mind, through the combination of Hatha Yoga with facial gymnastics, where the breath plays a fundamental role. This method is ideal for promoting youthfulness of the face, a more flexible body and a more balanced and calm mind.
If we focus on the specialty of facial Yoga and the benefits it can bring, it seems obvious that if we exercise the facial muscles we will be able to develop and increase the tone of the muscles, strengthen the maxillofacial joints and with it, combat flaccidity to maintain a defined face. By exercising the 57 muscles of the face, neck and scalp, oxygen is supplied to the tissues and, thereby, improves blood circulation and the condition of the skin, making it smoother and more radiant. In the same way, it notably influences the prevention of wrinkles and their reduction.
Dr. Laura Salvador Miranda from Antiaging Group Barcelona, published on her Blog about this discipline that is becoming more and more in vogue every day, and defines it as follows: “Facial yoga rejuvenates, relaxes, releases accumulated stress on the face …” It also refers to its usefulness: It fights sagging, provides flexibility to the skin, strengthens the facial and neck muscles, and stimulates the circulation of the face. For his part, Gary Sirkoski, creator of the facial exercises program known as “Happy Face Yoga”, defined 32 exercises to activate the different muscles of the face and neck.
According to Sarkoski, facial exercises result in an increase in blood supply and thereby also increase the amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin. These exercises by strengthening and toning the muscles produce a lifting of the cheeks, the corners of the mouth, and the contour line of the jaw, one of the consequences of flaccidity that most worries women and men, because the definition of the face is lost, which is a sign of youth.
