Natural oils have been used since ancient times and by various civilizations, due to their healing and revitalizing properties. These oils from the plant kingdom help us prevent aging, are nourishing, healing and firming

Nature is so generous that it offers us multiple possibilities for our personal care, maintaining the health of our organism, the beauty of our skin and the reunion with our spirit. The natural ingredients activate all our senses and their scents of wild flowers, wood, fresh forest, citrus fruits transport our mind to a very pleasant and comforting state of calm.

We want in this space to offer you detailed and simple information about natural oils and essential oils, so that you know how to differentiate them, and thus use them properly and, with this, prevent unwanted results.

Natural oils

Natural oils come from high-fat vegetables, seeds, and nuts; They are highly appreciated within natural cosmetics for the benefits they bring to the skin of the face, body and hair. Natural oils are ideal for dry skin due to their moisturizing properties, they are also softeners and great anti-aging allies.

Among the most common natural oils we can mention those from fruits and seeds such as: coconut, avocado, almonds, olive, argan and wheat, among many others. The texture of the oil will depend on the fatty acids in its composition, which may be more or less light.

We can use natural oils directly on our skin or hair without having to dilute them in another oil, unlike essential oils that do require mixing in an oil base, before applying it to our skin.

Essential oils

Essential oils are highly aromatic and their consistency is not greasy but rather light. They require a lot of dedication when processing them, due to the large amounts of plant matter that are needed for their preparation, due to their volatility and sensitivity to sunlight, which can cause alterations. That is why these oils are packaged in dark colored glass jars.

What are essential oils for?

The use of essential oils is very widespread in the production of perfumes and cosmetics. Various therapeutic properties are also attributed to them; They are highly appreciated in aromatherapy treatments where their use has been widely extended and an important function of these aromas stands out when they come into contact with our olfactory receptors, causing a feeling of tranquility, well-being, energy, freshness, among many others, depending on the fragrance used: rosemary, spearmint, ylang-ylang, lime, lemon, citronella, etc.

Likewise, their properties as anti-inflammatory are recognized and they are also used as bactericides – applying them topically and with due dilution as they should not be placed on the skin in its pure state. Some of these oils, in addition to the properties already mentioned, are used as insecticides for the natural control of pests in organic crops.

Recommendations

It is very important not to assume that essential oils from plants are completely safe. Aspects such as the high concentration of raw material (of vegetable origin) for its production, and its great ease of penetration through the skin membranes, must be taken into account.

While many oils are not considered toxic, certain groups of people may be more sensitive to them such as the very young, the elderly, and pregnant women. It is best to consult a professional or your family doctor before starting a treatment with essential oils.

It is very important to bear in mind that essential oils should not be ingested or applied directly to the skin – in their pure state – but rather diluted in another vegetable oil.
